Recovery is officially done.
After a difficult time with the incision healing, which included the stitches staying in for an extra week, and round of antibiotics and a full round of physical therapy, I have been cleared to run.
Not run like you're thinking. A combo of walking a minute and running a minute for up to 15 minutes and move on from there.
Honestly, it sounds a little dreadful. Remember when you started running and it was hard? That's where I am. I haven't run in months. I am truly starting at square one.
There is a long road ahead of me. And exactly eight weeks until I race again. I have selected the Mt. Dora 5K on December 16th. Time to get steppin'!
I'm slightly afraid to register, but I have some time before the price increase. Man, starting over sucks, but I'm more appreciative that you can ever know that I can still run!
Tomorrow the running begins. I'm excited to get back to it!

I have had to start over already twice this year and I'm still not cleared to run until next week. It's so frustrating. Thankfully, I'm trying to eat right, while down for the count.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I'm sure you will do fine. Of course, I don't know you personally, but I'm going to judge, assume, what have you based on reading the posts.
You have the mind and muscle memory of an endurance runner. You can do it!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand, I had back surgery in spring of 05, I didn't work out much at all until Jan of this yr and I have completed a couple halfs this year. When I wake up most morning I feel like i have to start over. I took alot of breaks this year, since its my first yr running again I didnt want to burn myself out, so I have to ask you, how do you prepare for a run? how often do you run?
ReplyDeleteKeep on truckin'. Did you sign up for Mt. Dora yet?
